Aston Villa welcome back Andrés García and Donyell Malen for their Premier League trip to Brentford.

Right-back García and attacking midfielder Malen, as well as Jamaldeen Jimoh-Aloba, missed Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League triumph at Club Brugge having not been included in Villa’s European squad list.

But they return to the fold for this weekend’s clash at Gtech Community Stadium.

Amadou Onana is also closing in on his comeback having been sidelined since the start of February, but fellow midfielder Ross Barkley remains absent due to injury.

Quartet Tyrone Mings, Matty Cash, Boubacar Kamara and Pau Torres all returned to Unai Emery’s matchday squad at Jan Breydelstadion in midweek, with all but the latter featuring against the Blauw-Zwart.

Manager Emery provided a fitness update at Friday afternoon’s pre-match media conference.

“Progressively, we are adding the players who have been injured,” he said. “They are getting close to playing more minutes.

“We anticipated Kamara’s comeback because we needed him, but we were trying to protect him, not in the starting XI and playing minutes.

“With Pau Torres the same, Cash the same, protecting them.

“But, of course, they played some minutes - Kamara and Cash - and they are closer to playing more.

“But we have to be intelligent with every player. With Pau Torres, the same.

Emery continued: “Barkley is out, not available for tomorrow, Onana is starting to work with the team and is close to being with us as well.

“Of course, we will need those players recovering after they’re injured and, hopefully, trying to keep being consistent better and not getting injured.”
