Three Villa nominations for WSL October awards

Aston Villa Women have received nominations in all three categories of the Barclays Women's Super League Awards for October.

The Villans won three and drew two of their five games to go unbeaten throughout the entire month, which included kicking off their winning tally in the WSL with back to back successes against Liverpool and Everton.

As reward winger Chasity Grant has been nominated for the Barclays Player of the Month and her stunning equaliser against the Reds is up for Barclays Goal of the Month.

Meanwhile interim head coach Brian Sørensen is in the running for Barclays Manager of the Month.

Dutch international Grant has been in flying form this season, hitting a particular purple patch in October by registering a goal contribution in all three of Villa's league games. 

She picked out a pinpoint pass for Noelle Maritz to score the opener in our 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace at the start of the month.

A fortnight later she levelled brilliantly against Liverpool at Keys Park, putting in a Player of the Match display to spark a second half turnaround. 

She ran onto a quick throw out from keeper Akane Okuma, leaving several defenders in her wake on her way to the penalty area, before arrowing a superb effort into the opposite top corner.

The team ran out 2-1 victors in Hednesford for a maiden league win of 2026/27, kicking off a run of eight games unbeaten across all competitions.

25-year-old Grant rounded off a sparkling couple of weeks by playing in Amalie Vangsgaard for our second goal at Goodison Park in the 3-2 win over Everton.

Interim head coach Sørensen has overseen a steady turnaround in fortunes for Villa since taking charge in late September. 

The side's two wins and a draw in October league outings have seen them rise to 9th in the WSL table, while that unbeaten record stretches to seven consecutive games across all competitions.

A first home point of the season against Crystal Palace was followed by an impressive comeback win v in-form Liverpool, before a commanding away win at Everton completed a brilliant month for Sørensen and the squad.

Voting for all three awards will close at 11am on Monday 9 November, with winners to be announced on Thursday 12 November.
