Aston Villa recorded the club's biggest-ever European victory as Unai Emery’s men thrashed Fenerbahçe in the UEFA Champions League.

Johan Manzambi marked his 21st birthday and competition debut with his first goal for the club, opening the scoring in the 12th minute as part of a Player of the Match display.

Nicolas Jackson netted with two emphatic finishes in eight minutes to make it four goals in his last three games and hand the hosts a 3-0 advantage at half-time.

Ross Barkley came to the fore in the second half, notching his first brace in claret and blue, including a well-taken penalty.

Tammy Abraham added the finishing touches in the final minutes as Villa hit six for the first time in European competition.

Triumph on Matchday Two maintains Villa’s winning start to the league phase ahead of another home clash against Viking FK in a week’s time, while also making it 11 consecutive European victories at home.

Villa Park came alive to welcome Champions League football back to B6, with a typically fervent atmosphere and a stunning tifo beckoning the next chapter of the club’s European journey.

The hosts responded by taking the game to the Süper Lig side from the off, with John McGinn, Barkley, Ibrahim Mbaye and Manzambi all having efforts at goal in the opening ten minutes.

And it wasn’t long before the breakthrough arrived, birthday boy Manzambi wheeling away in delight after his shot was deflected past Ederson by Milan Skriniar.

Zion Suzuki was called upon to make a trio of saves at the other end to preserve the lead before Pau Torres spurned an opportunity to add to the advantage when he headed over from a corner.

As the game ticked past the half-hour mark, the home fans rose to acclaim a second goal. Tenacious pressing from Boubacar Kamara won the ball back high up, and after he fed Jackson, the striker held off a defender and rifled a low shot past Ederson.

Oğuz Aydin flicked the top of the crossbar as the visitors looked to muster a response, but they soon found themselves falling further behind.

The Senegalese repeated the trick on 39 minutes, picking out the bottom corner with another drilled effort from the edge of the box, as Villa pressed home their dominance before the half-time whistle sounded.

McGinn and Mbaye fired shots on goal as the home side kept up the attacking intensity after the restart, while a deflected Matty Cash shot rippled the side netting.

The blistering pace of Mbaye was on full display when he led a counter-attack after 66 minutes, linking up with compatriot Jackson before Ederson denied him a first goal for the club.

A minute later, fast feet from Manzambi enticed a wild challenge from İsmail Yüksek in the box, referee Iva Kružliak having no hesitation in pointing to the spot.

Barkley assumed responsibility and coolly sent the goalkeeper the wrong way before setting off to celebrate in front of the Holte End.

Villa’s No.6 notched his first brace in claret and blue just four minutes later, making it 5-0 with a placed shot that took a wicked deflection off Bartuğ Elmaz before nestling in the bottom corner.

A superb evening was rounded off when Leon Goretzka came on to make his Villa debut in the closing stages, and he was on the field to see Abraham tap home from Alysson’s cross to set a new club record.
