It is with great sadness that we hear of the death of our former captain, Ian Ross.
Ian joined us from Liverpool in February 1972.
A totally committed footballer, Ian helped us to the Third Division title within a few months of his arrival.
He also captained the team which won the League Cup and also promotion to the First Division in 1974/75.
His consistent performances were an integral part of the claret and blue side of that successful era.
He was an ever-present in both 1973/74 and 1974/75 and missed only four games during the team’s first season back in the top-flight in 1975/76.
Ian left us to join Peterborough United in December 1976 after 205 games in claret and blue and three goals.
The thoughts of the football club are with his family and friends at this very sad time.
