CHLeipzig2Story in brief

Dean Smith’s men made it a 100% record in pre-season as preparations for the upcoming Premier League campaign concluded with an impressive 3-1 win over Bundeliga outfit RB Leipzig.

Conor Hourihane opened the scoring on 16 minutes with a quality free-kick from just outside the area before Yussuf Poulsen levelled matters for the hosts on 28 minutes.

Irish ace Hourihane put us back in front on 82 minutes with another scorching shot.

McGinnLeipzigJohn McGinn guaranteed victory with a fine fierce finish at the death, following a lovely ball through from new boy Trezeguet.

It was the most competitive encounter of all our friendly clashes as we now get set for a return to top-flight action next Saturday.

HeatonReportHeat is on!

Tom Heaton could hardly have asked for a better start to his life in claret and blue with a commanding display in the 3-1 win at RB Leipzig.

Heaton arrived from Burnley on Thursday and was straight into the action at the Red Bull Arena for the final pre-season game before we begin life in the Premier League next Saturday at Tottenham.

Heaton made superb saves from Christopher Nkunku and Marcel Sabitzer to keep us on level terms in the early stages of the second half – and his overall display was one of calm composure.

He’ll relish the battle to be No.1 this coming season as he fights for the jersey with his fellow keepers, including Jed Steer who has been brilliant since making his mark in our successful promotion campaign.
