Aston Villa’s preparations for the upcoming Barclays Women’s Super League season continued Sunday, as they took on Arsenal in their first friendly match of the pre-season.
New club captain Marisa Ewers led the team out at Villa Park, alongside a host of recent arrivals as Gemma Davies watched on intently.
Caro Siems and Anita Asante started in defence for the first time, while Ramona Petzelberger, Diana Silva and Stine Larsen also played their part from the outset.
There was plenty of opportunity for rotation throughout the game, with Chloe Arthur coming on to gain valuable minutes following her move from Birmingham City.
It was the first time the women’s side have played in a full-sided match since February 23rd, when they beat Coventry United in their final Championship fixture before the curtailment of the season.
It was also the first taste of playing behind-closed-doors for the Women’s team, something they will have to adjust to once the 20/21 campaign gets underway.
The Super League season is aiming for a start date of 5-6 September.
