Stine Larsen admitted Aston Villa Women weren’t good enough on Sunday, and says the team have to ‘keep improving’.
Villa lost 3-1 to Reading Women at the Madejski Stadium, their second straight defeat in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.
Larsen, who opened her goalscoring account in claret & blue, suggested the style of Reading’s play was something the team weren’t prepared for.
“We weren’t ready” said the Danish striker.
“It was too transitional and erratic; we aren’t good at that (style of play).
“We’re good at playing football.
“But we didn’t do that.
“It started with the first half.”
Despite claiming to have not performed to their own standards, Larsen insisted Villa created plenty of opportunities in front of the Reading goal.
“We are a better team (than we showed), but we weren’t there.
“Reading are good at what they want to do.
“We created a lot of chances, so I think the score could’ve been 3-3.
“But we should’ve stepped up in the first half.”
The harsh reality of top-flight football showed once again at the Madejski, and Larsen issued a vow on behalf of the team heading into the international break.
“We created a lot of chances; we believed we could come back from 3-0 down.
“Ultimately, it’s not good enough and we have to learn from this and keep improving.”
Aston Villa Women continue their Super League campaign on Saturday 3rd October, when they take on Everton Women at the Banks’s Stadium.
