Aston Villa were well represented on Monday evening as the awards for the League Managers’ Association and the FA Women’s Championship were announced.
Gemma Davies, fresh from her team being crowned winners of the Championship, was awarded Manager of the Season by the LMA.
It was an almost perfect season for Davies and her squad, particularly before the halt in play, as Villa racked up 13 wins from 14 league games to position themselves at the top of the table.
Ultimately, this was enough to reward Villa with promotion to the FA Women’s Super League.
Davies, speaking to VillaTV, had this to say on the accolade: “It’s a slightly strange feeling.
“I’m elated to win the award, but the title itself makes it easy to forget how instrumental the support staff have been to our success.
"The award is very much a recognition of their work and everybody’s work.”
Sian Rogers, meanwhile, played an equally huge part in this season’s success from between the sticks and has been awarded the Championship’s Golden Glove award.
The 22-year-old kept five clean sheets from those 13 wins, none more important than the one at Sheffield United on January 12 in which Villa came out 1-0 winners in a top-of-the-table clash.
Reacting to receiving the award, Rogers said: “I’m over the moon.
“I’m just really excited, really happy, and really pleased with myself.
"The team’s had a part to play in this as well, but it shows and highlights how consistent I’ve been this season which is the goal that I set out at the start of the season.”
