Emi Martinez hailed Aston Villa’s work-ethic after their impressive 3-0 triumph at Arsenal.

Villa flew out of the blocks and saw John McGinn’s strike inside the opening minute ruled out following a VAR review before Bukayo Saka’s own goal handed them a half-time lead.

Ollie Watkins’ second-half brace, taking his tally for the season to eight, then sealed a commanding and fully-deserved triumph.

Goalkeeper Martinez was making his first return to Arsenal since his summer switch to the midlands, coming after 10 years at the north London club.

And, speaking to VillaTV post-match, he was full of praise for his team-mates.

He said: “Three-nil and a clean sheet.

“But I don’t take that, especially, I take the work-ethic of the whole team, coming after two defeats at home.

“That’s three wins in a row away from home now.

“I don’t know when it was the last time we won against Arsenal here?

“I’m delighted, to be honest, I lost my voice as well.”

It was Villa’s first victory at the Emirates since 2013 and one which continued the club’s 100% record on the road this season.

They have done so without even conceding a goal, seeing off Fulham, Leicester City and now Arsenal.

And, for Martinez, that was a fourth clean sheet in his first seven appearances for the Villans.

“I’m delighted with how my defenders are playing,” the Argentinian added.

“Sometimes you have saves to make, sometimes I can’t make any saves.

“But the way my back four is defending is outstanding.

“I’ve kept four clean sheets because of them.”
