Ollie Watkins insists Aston Villa must bounce back positively from their first defeat of the campaign and regain their early season momentum.

Villa suffered a 3-0 loss to Leeds United on Friday night, with Patrick Bamford bagging a second-half hat-trick.

Dean Smith’s side had chances of their own to open the scoring before the visitors got the breakthrough at Villa Park and gained the upperhand.

And Watkins is keen to see Villa, who had recorded four successive Premier League wins going into the encounter, respond in the right manner and get back on track.

Speaking to VillaTV post-match, he said: “It’s a tough one to take because first half we were definitely in the game, Jack’s had one cleared off the line, very even.

“And then second half they’ve come out quite quick, started well, but we’ve had chances, Jack’s gone on that long mazy run.

“I think we were unlucky. It may seem weird, people thinking ‘unlucky’, you just got beat 3-0, but we had chances before they scored.

“They scored in quick succession and we fell behind, but this result doesn’t determine our season, it’s our first loss and it’s how we bounce back from this.”
