Aston Villa Women conceded in stoppage-time for the second consecutive game on Wednesday, as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Birmingham City.
Freya Gregory scored her first professional goal inside 30 minutes, as Villa looked on their way to learning from Saturday's mistakes.
However, Veatriki Sarri's 96th-minute free-kick floated all the way in to break the hearts of those in claret & blue.
Despite the disappointment, Marcus Bignot's side are now unbeaten in three games as they head into Sunday's penultimate league game versus West Ham United.
Villa got off to a lightning-quick start against the Blues, though, and had several chances to open the scoring inside the first 10 minutes.
Chloë Arthur, starting against her former club, saw a long free-kick fall to her in the penalty area, but stabbed agonisingly wide from point-blank range.
Moments later, the Scottish international planted a header wide of the same post from an Asmita Ale cross.
Mana Iwabuchi was the next in claret & blue to try her luck, but saw her effort deflect past the Birmingham City post
Villa weren't to be denied for much longer, though.
Iwabuchi set Shania Hayles off down the right-hand side, and the latter squared across the box to a poised Gregory.
The 18-year-old's first-time strike thundered off the crossbar, but Gregory reacted quickly to slot home the rebound and send the Villa team into delirium.
Birmingham would battle back into the derby during the second half, but caused no significant threat to Lisa Weiß's goal. Not for 90 minutes anyway.
Villa fought their way into the final few minutes and looked like they would secure a massive three points, when the hosts were given a free-kick on their right-hand side.
Sarri, on as a substitute, stood over the dead ball and bent in her kick towards the back post.
The ball evaded everyone and snuck in with all of 96 minutes on the clock; another punch in the gut for a Villa side already reeling from Saturday afternoon's drama.
The challenge will now for the players and staff to pick themselves up once more, as they head into a game against the Hammers at Villa Park on Sunday.
