Cameron Archer has declared his delight at penning a new contract at Aston Villa.

The young striker, who turned 20 earlier this week, has had a rapid rise into the first team this season after making a strong impression in pre-season and starring in the club’s Carabao Cup campaign.

Archer is happy to be continuing his development at the club he joined at the age of eight.

“I’m absolutely delighted,” he said.

“It’s been a long time coming but I’ve finally put pen to paper and I’m happy to be spending the next few years here.”

He added: “I’ve been here since I was eight years old and I’ve made my way through the ranks – it’s been a tough journey. It’s all paid off and I’m looking to kick on now.”

After making his senior debut in August 2019, Archer had to bide his time before he was handed a start against Barrow in the Carabao Cup earlier this season.

The forward hasn’t looked back since, hitting a hat-trick in that match before netting against Chelsea in the next round, with a Premier League debut at Old Trafford also coming his way.

Making his senior Villa Park debut is among Archer’s ambitions for the near future as he looks to continue his progression.

Archer said: “It’s definitely been surreal. If you’d have told me at the start of the season that I’d be in this position now, I’d probably have laughed.

“To be on the pitch (at Stamford Bridge) was an amazing feeling and to score in front of the Villa fans was crazy.

“It gave me a boost, playing at Stamford Bridge in front of 40,000 fans – something that I’ve never done before.

“It’s been a crazy few months and now I want to kick on.”
