Aston Villa Football Club are sorry to learn of the passing of former player Billy Hunt, who has died following a long illness.

Born in Halesowen, Hunt was a right-back who signed professional forms for the club in January 1952. He didn’t make any first first-team appearances, mainly because of the presence of Harry Parkes and Stan Lynn, having to be content with games for Villa’s third team in the Birmingham & District League.

A Villa amateur for 12 months before signing professional, Hunt had the distinction of playing alongside the legendary Duncan Edwards for Worcestershire Boys in 1949.

Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time.
