Aston Villa will open their 2021/22 Premier League season with a trip to newly-promoted Watford.

Dean Smith’s side will travel to Vicarage Road to face the Hornets on Saturday, August 14.

Watford, who were relegated from the top flight in 2019/20, secured an immediate return having finished second in the Championship last season.

And Villa will be looking to make amends for a 3-0 defeat on their last visit to Hertfordshire in December 2019.

The Villans then host Newcastle United at Villa Park in their first home fixture of the new season on Saturday August 21.

The eagerly-anticipated fixture is set to mark the full return of supporters to Villa Park for the first time since February 2020.

Villa then see the visit of promoted side Brentford, making their first appearance in the Premier League, on Saturday, August 28, before the September international break.

A trip to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea on Saturday, September 11 and a home encounter against Everton on Saturday, September 18 completes the club’s opening five fixtures.

Please note, all fixtures are subject to change.

The first derby meeting against midlands neighbours Wolves comes on home soil on October 16, with the return fixture at Molineux later in the season on April 2.

Villa’s festive period sees a home clash against Burnley on December 18 before entertaining Chelsea at Villa Park on Boxing Day.

It is followed by back-to-back away trips to Leeds United on December 28 and then the club’s first-ever visit to Brentford Community Stadium to face the Bees on New Year’s Day.

The Villans’ final five matches of the campaign see them travel to Leicester City (April 23), host Norwich City (April 30) and face Burnley at Turf Moor (May 7).

The club are then at home for the final time in 2021/22 against Crystal Palace (May 15) before a tough trip to reigning champions Manchester City on the final day (Sunday, May 22).

Fixtures selected for live television broadcast will be confirmed in due course.
