Emi Martínez kept a clean sheet as Argentina played out a goalless draw against Paraguay in the early hours of Friday morning.

The Aston Villa and Argentina No.1 completed 90 minutes at the Estadio Defensores del Chaco in Asuncion as the clash ended in stalemate.

La Albiceleste will now be looking to get back to winning ways on home soil against Uruguay on Monday as they continue their qualification campaign for next year’s World Cup in Qatar.

The draw means they move on to 19 points from their nine games, sitting in second place, eight points behind leaders Brazil.

Brazil remain firmly on course for the 2022 World Cup following a 3-1 victory over Venezuela.

Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz was not included in Brazil’s matchday squad for the encounter in Caracas.

It means the Seleção have now registered nine successive wins from their nine qualifying matches.

Luiz and Brazil will now travel to Colombia on Sunday, with the top four teams in qualifying automatically securing their spot at the World Cup and the fifth-placed side entering a play-off.

Fellow Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey completed 90 minutes for England’s Under-21s as they drew 2-2 against Slovenia in a European Championship qualifier.

The Young Lions held a 2-0 lead at half-time before being pegged back for a share of the spoils in Celje.

England, who face Andorra next up on Monday, sit third in Group G after their first two qualification matches for the U21 Euros.

Jaden Philogene-Bidace also completed 90 minutes for England’s U20s as they drew 1-1 against Italy in Chesterfield, with Kaine Kesler-Hayden an unused substitute.
