Danny Ings has clinched the Premier League’s August Goal of the Month award.

The summer signing marked his home debut in perfect fashion, netting a spectacular overhead kick which set Villa on their way to a 2-0 triumph over Newcastle United.

Ings’ strike won the club’s August Goal of the Month vote and it has now also sealed the Premier League honour.

After collecting the award, the striker said: “It feels great.

“Always, getting recognition for your goals is huge for a striker but most importantly I wanted to get off to a good start here at Villa and I feel like I’ve done that.”

He added: “The goal itself was obviously a routine that we had worked on on the training pitch.

“And luckily enough I was in the right position, when it was in the air I thought that was the only option for me, to attempt it, and luckily it went in.”

Ings was shortlisted alongside Villa team-mate John McGinn, for his sublime strike against Watford, as well as Luke Ayling (Leeds United), Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United), Jamie Vardy (Leicester City), Sadio Mane (Liverpool), Raphinha (Leeds United) and Rodri (Manchester City).

Congratulations, Danny!
