Chloë Arthur netted her first senior goals for Scotland in what was a successful September break for the midfielder.

Having come off the bench during the closing stages of Scotland's 2-0 win over Hungary on Friday, Arthur was handed a starting berth for Tuesday's World Cup qualifier with the Faroe Islands.

And with only 27 minutes played at Hampden Park, Villa's no.8 grabbed a brace.

The 26-year-old made two darting runs into the Faroe Islands penalty area, and was able to head home on both occasions.

Arthur has enjoyed a strong start to the 2021/22 campaign for Carla Ward's Villa side, and was visibly delighted to now be off the mark for her country.

After missing out on a place at the upcoming European Championships, in agonising circumstances, two wins in five days eases the pressure slightly as Scotland go in search of World Cup qualification.

They trail Spain at the top of Group B on goal difference.

Alisha Lehmann was also on target as Switzerland got their World Cup qualification campaign off to a faultless start.

The 22-year-old featured from the start on Friday evening as the Swiss hosted Lithuania in Thun.

And it would take just 15 minutes for our no.7 to score her fifth international goal.

Nils Nielsen's side would go on to win the game 4-1.

Tuesday evening saw Lehmann and co. travel to Moldova for their second and final qualification game this month.

Lehmann started on the bench but came on at half-time in search of adding to her tally.

The fleet-footed winger did just that on 87 minutes when she slid the ball past the 'keeper from close range.

Switzerland ran out 6-0 winners and sit atop Group G ahead of October's qualifiers.
