Kortney Hause headed home an 88th-minute winner as Aston Villa clinched a memorable 1-0 victory against Manchester United which saw Bruno Fernandes miss an injury-time penalty at Old Trafford.
Hause, making his first league start of the season, nodded Douglas Luiz’s corner past David de Gea to spark wild scenes among Villa’s travelling faithful late on.
Yet there was further drama to come as Hause himself was penalised for handball from Fernandes’ cross, but the United midfielder subsequently sent his 93rd-minute penalty high over the crossbar.
It was a hard-fought and deserved victory for Dean Smith’s side, who more than matched their hosts, as was the case against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge earlier this month, and were good value for their first away win of the season.
It was Villa’s first triumph at United since 2009 and only their second victory in the club’s last 34 league visits stretching back to 1983.

Villa arguably created the better chances of an entertaining encounter, Matt Targett, Ollie Watkins and Ezri Konsa all enjoying clear-cut opportunities in the first half while Watkins was denied by de Gea after the break.
United themselves also went close through Paul Pogba while Emi Martínez twice thwarted Mason Greenwood before Fernandes’ late penalty miss.
And the visitors will take plenty of confidence from another impressive display in which they were well-organised and played on the front foot to pose plenty of attacking threat.

Defender Hause, who impressed in Wednesday’s Carabao Cup tie at Chelsea, replaced on-loan Axel Tuanzebe, who was ineligible against his parent club.
Hause’s inclusion was the only change from last weekend’s 3-0 victory over Everton, with talented teenager Lamare Bogarde, 17, named among the substitutes for the first time for a league fixture.

Villa contained United well in the first half and it was the visitors who enjoyed the game’s first clear opening after 16 minutes, Matty Cash exchanging a one-two with John McGinn and delivering a low cross to the far post which Matt Targett could only send over the crossbar from four yards.
Emiliano Martínez saved well from Mason Greenwood moments later before Villa enjoyed another golden opportunity, David de Gea’s attempted clearance straight to Ollie Watkins inside the penalty area but he could only fire straight at the United goalkeeper.
And it was Villa who created their third clear-cut chance of the first half shortly before the interval, Ezri Konsa heading over Douglas Luiz’s inswinging corner from close range.
Martínez did superbly to produce a one-handed save from United captain Harry Maguire in the 43rd minute before Paul Pogba headed wide from Bruno Fernandes’ corner as it somehow remained goalless at the interval.

Villa continued on the front foot at the start of the second half, Watkins finding space in the area and laying off to Danny Ings, who was deemed narrowly offside in the build-up before being upended by Maguire in the penalty area.
Martínez got down smartly to deny Greenwood in the 65th minute before Watkins stung the palms of de Gea at the other end.
Pogba sent an effort off target as both sides looked to claim victory in the final stages.
And it was Villa who did so courtesy of Hause’s glancing header from Luiz’s set-piece, although they survived late drama as Fernandes’ wildly sent his penalty high over the bar after Hause had been penalised for handball.
The final whistle was greeted with huge celebrations among Villa’s players, staff and supporters as Villa sealed only their second victory against United in their last 46 Premier League meetings.
