Aston Villa is sorry to learn of the passing of former player Dave Rudge, who has died at the age of 74.
The Wolverhampton-born midfielder joined the club straight from school, graduating through the youth ranks before making his debut in a 1-0 defeat by Arsenal at Highbury in August 1966.
He played in only three games as Villa were relegated that season but went on to make a total of 60 appearances, scoring ten goals.
His first goal was in a 3-1 win against Rotherham United, 12 months after his debut, and he served the club under four different managers – Dick Taylor, Tommy Cummings, Tommy Docherty and Vic Crowe.
Rudge, who joined Hereford United in 1972, has been a guest of the Villa Former Players’ Club at several games over the past few seasons.
The thoughts of everyone at the club are with Dave's family and friends.
Rest in peace, Dave.
