Steven Gerrard says Aston Villa need to act quickly to put things right after Sunday’s 1-0 defeat at home to West Ham United.
The head coach watched on as Pablo Fornals got a huge slice of luck to score the only goal of the game after 74 minutes, with the Spaniard’s strike taking a big deflection off Ezri Konsa.
Villa pushed forward as they attempted to get back on level terms, but they came up empty at the final whistle.
He said: “I’m very disappointed with the outcome of the game.
“We haven’t got enough points on the board. I certainly share our fans’ frustration and our players’ frustration.
“We need to act and we need to act quickly. We need to not feel sorry for ourselves and we need to put it right as quick as we can.”

Gerrard added: “First half there was nothing in it and if anything, we were better. We had the most control up to a certain point on the pitch. I felt we didn’t have enough imagination or creative spark.
“The game was finely balanced at half-time and I always felt it was going to be us to go and take the points away from West Ham or we get caught. We got caught with a bit of bad luck today.”
Gerrard utilised all the attacking options at his disposal as he sought to break down a stubborn Hammers side.

However, Villa’s offensive efforts came up empty, and the points were lost despite Emi Martinez having little to do in the home goal.
“We haven’t done a lot wrong today. We could have been a bit more imaginative or creative in the final third but in terms of how the game looked, Emi’s been relatively quiet,” Gerrard said.
“This wasn’t through a lack of effort. The players who came off gave everything they’ve got.
“We threw our creative players at it to see if they could find the spark – Emi Buendia, Leon Bailey, Jacob Ramsey. We tried to be more aggressive but we just couldn’t find that opening.”
