Young people from various Aston Villa Foundation projects across Birmingham descended upon Villa Park on Friday for the Foundation’s Youth and Community Achievement Awards.

The evening celebrated the remarkable achievements of our Premier League Kicks, Premier League Inspires and Ability Counts participants.

Eleven awards were up for grabs, honouring participants' volunteer work, attendance, leadership and personal development.

External guests were invited to the event, including West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner Simon Foster, who spoke and congratulated the young people on their achievements, as well as representatives from Child’s Trust and Local West Midlands PCSO’s.

“Hosting an event like this allows us to celebrate the fantastic achievements of young people on our programmes and enables us to share with parents and partners just how important and effective these programmes are.”

Ian Robinson

Youth and Community Coordinator

Since the project began in 2006, The Aston Villa Foundation’s Kicks programme engages with over 1,400 participants each year in a wide expanse of locations across Birmingham. The programme aims at using the power of football and the value of sports participation to help hard-to-reach youngsters in some of the most high-need areas.

At a local level, the club is partnering with West Midlands Police. The force has been a strong proponent of the Aston Villa Kicks programme, helping to break down barriers between the police and young people.

Ability Counts is Aston Villa’s disability football provision, providing inclusive, accessible football for disabled people from the age of six right through to adulthood.
