VillaTV subscribers have raised over £8,000 for the Aston & Nechells Foodbank through purchasing match passes for Villa’s recent mid-season friendlies in the United Arab Emirates.

With all proceeds from the Club’s in-house coverage of the Brighton & Hove Albion and Chelsea fixtures going to the project, UK and Ireland-based Villa supporters were able to make a donation to an incredibly worthy cause, raising a total of £8,682.20.

The Foodbank provides vital food and hygiene products to support people in crisis, operating from three sites in the B6, B7 and B8 areas of Birmingham, with the volunteer-run project serving an increasing number of people in need.

Kerry Lenihan from the Aston and Nechells Foodbank said: "Aston & Nechells Foodbank would like to thank Aston Villa fans for their huge generosity shown via their matchday pass donations. The money raised will make an enormous difference to the delivery of our service over the winter months.

“We are currently spending in excess of £2,000 a month to fill stock gaps and expect this to increase as the reality of the cost of living crisis grips our community.

“Every penny donated will be utilised to support those experiencing food poverty in the areas surrounding Villa Park. Your support is invaluable to us and those in need.“

Christian Purslow, Villa CEO, presented Kerry with a cheque for the total ahead of last Thursday’s friendly fixture with Villarreal.

The club’s Academy have also been doing their bit for the Foodbank, with four of our young stars attending the site recently to lend a helping hand.

Kerr Smith, Kobei Moore, Chisom Afoka and Ruben Shakpoke visited the facility last week to help Foodbank coordinators with donations they have received.
