Aston Villa Women can confirm that Marisa Ewers has taken the decision to end her playing career.
The German midfielder signed for the club in the summer of 2019 and went on to make 51 appearances, scoring three goals in the process.
Ewers, 32, played an integral part as Villa secured promotion from the FA Women’s Championship in 2020, and had a key role in the club’s final-day survival in their maiden Barclays FA Women’s Super League campaign.

Having been named title winners in the Championship, the Hamburg native was given the club captaincy ahead of their return to the top flight.
Ewers was renowned for her combative style in the middle of the pitch which, in turn, elevated the levels of those around her during a distinguished playing career.
Marisa will move into an off-field role with the Women’s team for the remainder of the 2021/22 season and will support Carla Ward’s staff in doing so.
Thank you for everything, Maz and good luck in your next chapter!
