Aston Villa will unveil its new Champions of Europe tribute wall at Villa Park on Saturday as the club continues its celebrations to mark the 40th anniversary of our European Cup success.

A special 11-frame wall display will be revealed to honour Villa’s 1982 squad and their historic achievement as they lifted the top prize in European football, coming 12 months after they were crowned champions of England.

The next in a series of special events taking place across the 2021/22 season, the tribute display will be located on the exterior wall of the Holte End on the Trinity Road side, which lies between the Holte End car park and the Trinity Stand tunnel.

European Cup 40th anniversary tribute

Several of Villa’s 1982 heroes will be present at the unveiling event to tell the story of how they won the cup, share anecdotes and answer fans’ questions, including Dennis Mortimer, Tony Morley, Gordon Cowans, Gary Shaw, Kenny Swain, Allan Evans and Colin Gibson.

The opening ceremony on Trinity Road at Villa Park will take place from 4.15pm-5pm on Saturday, January 15 ahead of our Premier League encounter at home to Manchester United.

Supporters are invited to attend and join us for the occasion as we continue our celebrations of the most memorable night in the club’s history.

European Cup 40th anniversary tribute

Each of the 11 frames will feature an image of a player from our memorable European Cup Final triumph over Bayern Munich.

Below each image will be a short description which depicts iconic moments from that incredible cup run, each one contributing to the story of how Villa became kings of Europe.

All nicely designed in a bespoke European Cup 40th anniversary style, all players and playing staff who are not shown in the images but were part of the cup-winning squad are also recognised for their invaluable contributions to the club's history.

Please note, fans are invited to attend the event and take photos, but we politely ask that they remain behind the rope barriers at all times in order to maintain social distancing.

The former player line-up is subject to possible change.

To celebrate our remarkable 1980/81 and 1981/82 seasons, AV40tribute are working in partnership with Aston Villa’s title-winning squad to organise a series of events and activities.
