Ahmed Elmohamady served Aston Villa with distinction during four years as a player, and he has been doing so once again in a new role as Club Ambassador.
Elmohamady took up the position for the club’s pre-season tour in Australia, where he is attending events, meeting local and national figures, and helping to bring Villa to a new audience.
The Egyptian, who made 129 appearances for the club, jumped at the opportunity to be involved when he was approached.

He said: “I got the call and I didn’t have to think about anything. To be involved with the club again is one of my proudest moments.
“To come back and be involved with the club as an Ambassador, I’m very proud of this role.”
The position of Club Ambassador is a change of pace for someone who is fondly thought of by Villa fans for his strong performances on the pitch during his spell in claret and blue

But it’s a position that Elmohamady has revelled in, embracing a busy schedule during the club’s time in Brisbane, on the Gold Coast and in Townsville, with a final stop in Perth still to come.
“You see Villa fans all over the world and it’s amazing,” he said.
“Before the game (v Leeds United) we did a few events with the fans and it’s been good to see the support around here.
“So many turned up to the game as well, over 40,000, which was fantastic to see.

“We went outside the stadium and had a great meeting with the fans, I really enjoyed that. It’s been great to see the Villa fans here in Australia.”
Having spent the past two pre-seasons in the UK due to the travel restrictions inflicted by the Covid-19 pandemic, the tour in Australia represents a huge opportunity for the club on a number of fronts.
One of those opportunities is showcasing Aston Villa to a new audience – something Elmohamady is delighted to be doing.

“It’s important for fans around the world to see Villa. Aston Villa is a massive club and we’ve got fans all over the world,” he said.
“It’s good to come here and let the fans see the team, see the new players and staff for the first time.
“I’ve had a few chats with the fans and they were absolutely lovely, so we want more of this around the world in different places for Aston Villa fans.”
