Aston Villa completed their pre-season preparations on Saturday as they triumphed 2-1 at Stade Rennais.

Brazilian centre-back Diego Carlos headed home an 81^st-minute winner at Roazhon Park after Leon Bailey had earlier cancelled out Arthur Theate’s opener, ensuring Villa ended their pre-season campaign unbeaten.

Amid the stifling summer heat of northern France, and with the backing of a sell-out allocation of 1,300 Villa supporters, Steven Gerrard's side ended their pre-season campaign unbeaten against a Rennes outfit who finished fourth in Ligue 1 last season.
