Aston Villa assets were important picks for Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers during the 2021/22 season.

Matty Cash (£5.3m) was the most chosen Villa asset by the conclusion of the campaign. The defender had 11.5% ownership by the Gameweek 38 deadline.

Both Emi Martínez (£5.5m) and Philippe Coutinho (£7.1m) also finished the season in over 10% of FPL squads - 11.4% and 10.6% respectively.

Additionally, Cash was Villa’s highest-scoring player in FPL terms, returning 147 points during the campaign.

He was the eighth-highest scoring defender throughout the game and the cheapest of the top 10.

Elsewhere, only four forwards scored more than the 11 Ollie Watkins (£7.5m) managed. He had 77 attempts on goal, with 72 of those coming from inside the box. Furthermore, 32 were on target – a total that only Harry Kane (£12.5m) and Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.2m) could better among forwards.

Watkins also finished joint-top for penalty area touches (185) within his position. Looking forward, this is positive for FPL managers as he is often in the right place to return points.

Jacob Ramsey (£4.7m) was the perfect budget enabler last season. All FPL managers need these crucial members in their squad – the players who automatically come off the bench to replace non-appearing starters, usually adding one or two points.

However, with Ramsey, managers had an incredibly cheap midfielder who scored on six occasions. He finished on 109 points and ended up as a starter for many.

Ramsey also returned four double-digit hauls, equalling the likes of Bruno Fernandes (£11.6m), Phil Foden (£7.9m) and Diogo Jota (£8.3m).
