Unai Emery was delighted to see Aston Villa take the “first step” of his tenure at Villa Park on Sunday.
The club’s new head coach, who began the role earlier in the week, watched his side secure a deserved 3-1 win against Manchester United at Villa Park.
Speaking to VillaTV after the match, Emery was happy with how his first game in charge unfolded.

“It was amazing to be here with our supporters in Villa Park,” he said.
“It’s the first day and I was so excited, and now I’m really happy.”
He added: “I believe in these players, and I know they have been underperforming.
“We have to take regularity in our way but sometimes they were showing the capacity.
“They may have been doing that before, but we have to play with regularity, be consistent, be disciplined, be organised and I think we made the first step today.”
The Spaniard’s debut in the Villa Park dugout was a historic one as it ended a 27-year wait for a home win against the Red Devils in the Premier League.

Emery, who spoke about his eagerness to taste the atmosphere in B6 pre-match, clearly enjoyed his return to the top flight, and he now wants to see a high level of performance delivered on a regular basis.
He said: “I am a privileged man to be here and to win against them.
“I enjoyed it a lot today. We were so focussed on our game plan. We were so strong with their (the fans) support.
“It’s only one step and we have to achieve regularity and we have to achieve being consistent in the next matches – at home and away.
“We have a lot of work to do.”
