After doing battle at Villa Park on Sunday, Aston Villa and Manchester United went head-to-head at Old Trafford on Thursday night.

A place in the Carabao Cup fourth round was at stake this time, and a cagey first half elapsed without a goal.

The game sprung to life at the start of the second half when Ollie Watkins’ opener was cancelled out immediately by Anthony Martial.

Villa retook the lead when Diogo Dalot scored an own goal only for Marcus Rashford to level before Bruno Fernandes and Scott McTominay won the tie for the hosts.
