Matty Cash, Jan Bednarek and Poland opened their World Cup campaign with a point as they played out a goalless draw against Mexico.
Right-back Cash, making his tournament debut, completed 90 minutes of the Group C encounter at Stadium 974 in Doha, with fellow defender and Villa team-mate Bednarek an unused substitute.
Robert Lewandowski came closest to breaking the deadlock but saw his second-half penalty saved by Mexico goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa.
The stalemate came after Saudi Arabia stunned Emi Martínez's Argentina with a 2-1 victory in Group C’s earlier match on Tuesday.
Poland are next in action against Saudi Arabia on Saturday (ko 1pm).
