John McGinn felt it was two points dropped as Aston Villa were unable to find a way past 10-man Leeds United.

Villa were held to a goalless draw at Elland Road after the hosts played the second half with 10 men following Luis Sinisterra’s dismissal.

The Villans created plenty of openings but could not make them count as they were forced to settle for a point.

And captain McGinn echoed head coach Steven Gerrard in speaking of his frustration post-match.

“Two points dropped,” the Scotland international told VillaTV.

“I think the overall feeling is frustration, when a team goes down to 10 men with 40 minutes to go then the onus is on us to go and create chances and take those.

“And we did create those chances, maybe not as many as we would like, but we didn’t take them and that’s the frustrating thing because we’ve started defending better, getting clean sheets and stopped the rot a wee bit at that side of the pitch.

“So, our focus now is to create better chances, become slicker and score a lot more goals.”

The point was Villa’s first on the road this season and extended their unbeaten run to three matches following three successive Premier League defeats.

It was also back-to-back clean sheets following the 1-0 victory over Southampton.

McGinn is keen to take the positives from the encounter, although he admits that does not hide the overriding emotions of frustration.

“We had to stop the rot, it was a bad run of form we were going on, we were conceding poor goals, we weren’t putting our bodies on the line," he said.

“We’ve become a little bit nastier to play against which is a good thing.

“So, to take the positives out of it, that is what we’ll do; we kept another clean sheet at a tough place.

“But the overall feeling is frustration in the dressing room.”
