Emiliano Buendía wears his heart on his sleeve on the pitch, an attribute which Aston Villa fans have always loved about the Argentine.

And the 26-year-old is very appreciative of the support that has come his way from the stands at Villa Park since he joined the club in summer of 2021.

“It means a lot to me,” he said.

Aston Villa take on Leeds United on Friday night football.

“I’ve been here for a year and a half already and I really enjoy living here and playing for this amazing club.

“I really feel a love for the fans. When they sing my song, it’s quite emotional for me.

“I’m very happy and I want to give back to them through my football and with good results to help the team and the club.”

Buendía’s recent displays have only enhanced his standing among supporters, with the playmaker netting two goals in his past five games.

Both the crossbar and post denied him a goal against Leicester City on Saturday, but he believes he will continue to thrive under head coach Unai Emery.

Buendía has featured in every match since the Spaniard took over, and he feels they are aligned in their views on the game.

He said: “As soon as he (Emery) came, we had a good meeting and I understood everything that he asked of me.

“I think his ideas are perfect for my game. I really enjoy every game.

“I’m confident and I’m working as hard as possible to be in my best shape to help the team.”
