Emi Buendía says Aston Villa must believe in themselves when they take to the pitch against Manchester City on Sunday.

Unai Emery’s side travel to Etihad Stadium to face the title contenders having won their past three away matches in the Premier League.

Buendía is well aware of the challenge facing his team as they bid to extend that run, but he’s confident in his team-mates’ abilities.

“City are fighting for the title, and they are one of the best teams in the world,” he said.

“They play amazing football, but we have improved a lot and we have three victories in three away games.

“Now, it’s another challenge for us. We have to go there trying to be competitive.

“We showed against Spurs, another big team, that we can get the three points. We have to be confident in ourselves.”

The Argentine has been a key component of Emery’s reign thus far, featuring in every game since he joined the club.

And Buendía feels the team have improved across the pitch under Emery’s guidance.

He said: “They (the coaching staff) are quite focused on the small details, tactical things. Now we look stronger in different parts of the game.

“In the last game, unfortunately, we conceded four goals, but I think our structure when defending is better and more consistent.

“We feel more freedom in the attacking areas to create good chances. In almost every game, we’ve had plenty of chances to score goals.

“We need to be more clinical sometimes.”
