Emi Martínez won The Best FIFA Men's Goalkeeper Award 2022 at a ceremony in Paris on Monday night.

The Aston Villa and Argentina goalkeeper beat Yassine Bounou (Sevilla and Morocco) and Thibaut Courtois (Real Madrid and Belgium) to the accolade.

A tearful Martínez took to the stage to collect the award from Eniola Aluko and Julio Cesar before thanking his teammates, both internationally and domestically, and his family.

The 30-year-old played a crucial role in Argentina's triumph at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, picking up the tournament's Golden Glove award in the process.

His displays in a Villa shirt also contributed to his winning the award, underlining his importance to the club by captaining Villa on several occasions this season.

Congratulations, Emi!
