Alisha Lehmann featured as Switzerland’s secured their place in the knockout stages of the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The Swiss played out a cagey 0-0 draw with New Zealand on Sunday morning, but the result confirmed their place as Group A winners and they will face either Spain or Japan in the round of 16.

The game offered little in terms of clear goal-scoring opportunities, however Åland United’s Jacqui Hand did strike the post in the first half for the co-hosts.

Having been an unused substitute in Switzerland’s second group game against Norway, Alisha entered the fray with 20 minutes remaining as her country searched for the goal that would absolutely confirm their passage into the knockout stages of the tournament.

Just when the change looked like swinging the momentum further in the favour of the Swiss, Malia Steinmetz of Western Sydney Wanderers had an attempt on goal to serve a precaution that there were still two sides in the game.

Melbourne Victory’s Claudia Bunge then sent a header goalwards but saw her effort comfortably kept out.

Switzerland saw out the rest of the game with relative ease and will now look forward to competing for a place in the quarter-finals.
