The 2022/23 campaign represented a season of progress for Aston Villa.

A seventh-place finish in the Premier League was the club’s highest position in the top flight since 2010.

There were a number of Villa records broken and equalled during the course of a memorable season.

Aston Villa were the joint-most improved team in terms of league position compared to last season, moving up SEVEN places.

The team also accrued 16 more points than they managed in the 2021/22 campaign, a record bettered by only Newcastle United and Manchester United.

Villa did the double over FOUR sides in the top flight: Brighton & Hove Albion, Tottenham Hotspur, Southampton and Everton.

Only champions Manchester City (53) won more Premier League points in 2023 than Villa’s 43.

Villa’s final day win against Brighton & Hove Albion at Villa Park equalled the club’s Premier League record of SEVEN consecutive home victories, set from December 1992 to February 1993.

A total of 18 Premier League wins equalled Villa's best in a 38-match season, set in 1995/96.

European football was secured for the first time since Villa appeared in the Europa League in 2010.

Aston Villa hosted Newcastle United in the Premier League on Saturday.

Player Stats

Ollie Watkins became the first Villa player to reach 15 goals in a top flight season since Christian Benteke.

The striker became the first Villan to score in five consecutive away Premier League games when he netted against Chelsea in April, quickly extending that streak to SIX with a goal at Leicester City three days later.

Emiliano Buendia and Ezri Konsa were the only players to feature in all 38 Premier League matches.

Konsa was the most effective tackler in the squad, winning 71% of his tackles.

Tyrone Mings recorded 54 interceptions in the Premier League, more than any other player in the league.

In terms of assists, Jacob Ramsey enjoyed the best season of his career, registering EIGHT across all competitions. He also equalled his best goal tally with six strikes.

TWELVE clean sheets were registered in the Premier League, with Emi Martinez contributing 11 and Robin Olsen securing one.

Martinez made exactly 100 saves in his 37 appearances, 66 from shots inside the box and 34 from shots outside the box.

Player of the Season Douglas Luiz had the stats to back up a fine season, setting new career highs for goals and assists, scoring SEVEN and assisting SIX across all competitions.

Leander Dendoncker registered the highest pass completion rate in the team with 88%, successfully completing 321 of 363 passes. Luiz followed closely in second with 87% (1,663 of 1915).
