Aston Villa Women secured their spot in the semi-finals of the Vitality Women's FA Cup on Sunday evening.

Rachel Daly scored a dramatic winner in extra time, after Deyna Castellanos had cancelled out Rachel Corsie's early opener.

The full-time whistle was greeted with scenes of jubilation and delirium, with Villa making it into the final four for the first time in their history.

Carla Ward made two changes from the side that started the previous three games for Aston Villa.

Anna Patten came back in to partner Rachel Corsie in the centre of defence, with Dan Turner sliding across to left-back.

Laura Blindkilde Brown, meanwhile, replaced Alisha Lehmann further up the pitch.

The game lived up to its billing in the opening exchanges, with Chloe Kelly bursting down the right wing at any given opportunity.

Rachel Daly mustered Villa’s first attempt on goal inside nine minutes when her front-post effort was palmed clear by Ellie Roebuck.

The next shot caused her England teammate a few more problems.

Daly, in similar fashion to her stunner last weekend, let fly from long range without hesitation.

Roebuck flung to her left to prevent the shot from nestling into the top corner, but the ensuing corner resulted in the opening goal.

Corsie rose highest to nod in her first goal for the club and send the Bescot Stadium wild.

Villa were deserving of the lead, but they were pegged back before half-time.

Castellanos, having notched against us back in January, expertly headed home past Hannah Hampton to level the scores on 38 minutes.

Rachel Corsie v Manchester City

It was all to play for entering the second 45 minutes, but City had the stronger of the chances coming out of half-time.

Bunny Shaw had an attempt cleared off the line from close range, with City striking the crossbar seconds later in an early second-half barrage.

As time went on the game became more and more feisty, with challenges flying in from both sides.

Sarah Mayling found herself, unfortunately, on the receiving end and had to come off for Maz Pacheco after 60 minutes.

Alisha Lehmann was next to enter the fray on 79 minutes, replacing Laura Blindkilde Brown.

But no sooner was that particular change made, Villa found themselves running towards their own goal.

Chloe Kelly was sent through on goal, with the stadium expecting the net to bulge moments later.

Rachel Daly v Manchester City

But the England international dragged her effort wide of Hampton's post, much to the delight of the home faithful.

City had much of the ball as 90 minutes drew closer, but Villa stood firm to stay in it.

They even had a chance to win it in the dying seconds of normal time, but Dan Turner's close-range header went an inch wide.

That didn't seem to deter Carla Ward's side, as Daly put them ahead in the sixth minute of extra time.

Anna Patten nodded a deep free-kick towards goal, and following a moment or two of pinball, Daly tapped home her 19th of the season.

The goal seemingly spurred Villa onto victory, with City not seeing much of the opposing goal from thereon in.

Villa Women and Carla Ward go marching on.
