Kirsty Hanson is pleased with the way in which Aston Villa 'ground' out their 3-3 draw with Liverpool on Sunday.

Hanson, fresh from being nominated for the Barclays WSL's Player of the Year award, scored either side of Rachel Daly's effort to salvage a point against the Reds at Villa Park.

Goals number six and seven of the season from the Scotland international ensured Villa did not lose a game in which they were stretched extremely thin.

“Frustrating because we didn’t get the win but I think it’s a fair result," said Hanson in the immediate aftermath of the draw.

"We weren’t at our best. Everything was thrown at us. Injuries, I’m ill, a few other illnesses… it shows that not matter what we stuck together as team and we grinded it out and made sure we got that point on the board.”

Liverpool shocked Villa with a quickfire double towards the end of the first half that turned the game on its head, but the hosts regrouped before scoring twice more in the topsy-turvy affair.

While Hanson was honest in her appraisal of the overall performance, she took the positives in not losing.

“We really didn’t want to lose. They were silly goals to concede and we weren’t at our best, but we had to take our chances and mine went in."

"Just happy to get the point that we really needed.”
