Aston Villa Women are delighted to announce that Carla Ward has put pen-to-paper on a new deal until the end of the 2024/25 season, with an option to extend for a further year.

Carla, 39, joined the club ahead of the 2021/22 season and immediately led Villa to an improved ninth-place finish in the Barclays WSL.

That progression has continued into the current campaign, with the team securing fifth-place during last weekend’s draw with Liverpool while also becoming the first-ever team outside the top four to record 10 wins in a single season.

The Villa manager also won the WSL's Manager of the Month award on three occasions this season, while also being nominated for Manager of the Season.

The team enjoyed a strong run in both domestic cup competitions this campaign, reaching the quarter-finals of the Conti Cup and semi-finals of the FA Cup, respectively.

Head of Women's Football, Lee Billiard, said: "This is tremendous news for Carla and the Club. We have continued to see substantial improvement in the team under her leadership, both individually and collectively, and this contract extension will allow her to continue progressing and building on our strategy to try to develop young players while putting Aston Villa at the heart of the women’s game in England at this exciting time.”

Congratulations, Carla!
