Álex Moreno could be included in Aston Villa’s matchday squad for Sunday’s Premier League clash at Nottingham Forest.

The left-back is still to make a first-team appearance this season due to injury, but he returned to join in with training this week and will be assessed ahead of the trip to The City Ground to determine his availability.

Midfielder Jacob Ramsey is also progressing with his recovery although this weekend’s encounter against The Reds comes too soon, while long-term absentees Tyrone Mings and Emi Buendía remain sidelined.

Head coach Unai Emery provided an injury update at Friday’s pre-match media conference.

“We have the same players out, still, of course, Tyrone Mings and Emiliano Buendía,” he said.

“Jacob Ramsey is working individually and getting better, but not for the next two weeks before the (international) break. I think he’s not going to be available.

“Álex Moreno is progressively getting better and he’s training with the team, not completely, but progressively getting better and he is very close to being available to play.

“Maybe to be with us on Sunday in the squad, he could be.”
