Emi Martínez was named as the winner of the prestigious Yashin Trophy on Monday night.
At the Balon d’Or awards ceremony in Paris, Aston Villa’s No.1 collected the accolade, which honours the best goalkeepers in world football.
“I’m full of emotion to have won this,” he said upon collecting his award.
“Without my teammates at Aston Villa and in the Argentina national team, this wouldn’t have been possible – this moment in my career.”

The World Cup winner, who was also shortlisted in 2021, beat Mike Maignan (AC Milan), Ederson (Manchester City), Aaron Ramsdale (Arsenal), Andre Onana (Manchester United), Thibaut Courtois (Real Madrid), Yassine Bounou (Al Hilal), Brice Samba (RC Lens), Marc-Andre ter Stegen (Barcelona) and Dominik Livakovic (Fenerbahce) to win the award.
Martínez, who placed 15th in the 2023 Balon d’Or, adds another trophy to his glittering CV, which includes The Best FIFA Men's Goalkeeper Award and World Cup Golden Glove Award in 2022.
The 31-year-old recently set a national team record after going 622 minutes without conceding for Argentina, while also maintaining his stellar performance levels at club level.
Congratulations, Emi!
