John McGinn helped Scotland move a step closer towards Euro 2024 qualification with a goal and an assist in a 3-0 victory over Cyprus.

The Aston Villa captain, who completed 83 minutes, put Scotland on their way as his headed flick-on set up Scott McTominay to open the scoring from close range early on.

And McGinn then curled home the visitors’ third goal from the edge of the area on the half-hour mark, capping an impressive performance from the Tartan Army.

Scotland, who lead Group A by nine points ahead of second-placed Spain, have now won all five of their qualifiers so far and are closing in on a place at next summer’s European Championship in Germany.

Elsewhere in Group A on Friday night, Villa defender Pau Torres was an unused substitute as Spain saw off Georgia 7-1.

Spain currently trail Scotland but have two games in hand over the group leaders.
