Unai Emery was in front of the cameras on Wednesday evening to preview Aston Villa's Europa Conference League quarter-final second leg against LOSC Lille.

The club's head coach spoke to local, national and international media ahead of Thursday night's game at Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

Here's what he had to say...

On team news...

Aston Villa hosted Lille in a Europa Conference League quarter-final.

"After Sunday, we are adding Douglas Luiz into the squad.

"Álex Moreno has a small injury in his calf and he’s going to be out. He’s not available for tomorrow and maybe it will be two or three weeks.”

On Villa’s approach to the second leg…

Unai Emery.

“We have to play two matches; the first leg we won but it’s not enough. We knew before the match it would be very difficult and they showed their capacity, their power and that they’re very motivated for this competition.

“When we are in Europe we have to be focusing and very demanding if we want to get something here. Now is the moment to show our capacity.

“Playing against a team like Lille, they are very motivated and they are a very organised team. The result at Villa Park was not enough for us or for them.

“We have to enjoy an amazing day, an amazing match being very demanding. We are ready to play and we are aware of the difficulties we are going to face tomorrow.”

On taking confidence from the win against Arsenal…

Arsenal v Aston Villa

“It was a very good result for us in the Premier League, but we are trying to separate those competitions. Our motivation in the Premier League is to get a European position.

“When we are getting a European position like last year, we have to enjoy the way when we are in, like now in the Conference League. Europe, for me, is very important and it’s a big motivation.

“Premier League is the first way to get it. When we are in, the second objective is to be a contender to get a trophy. We have to be motivated to do a hard effort doing the way to get it.

“Through this competition we can win a title and we can get another opportunity to play in Europe next season. Every match is very difficult and we have to take experiences in our way, for the players and for me. I have experiences in Europe for a long time and some players in the squad too.

“Some players don’t have experiences in Europe, so it’s amazing to share this possibility here.”

On the importance of set pieces…

Aston Villa hosted Lille in a Europa Conference League quarter-final.

“Set pieces are very important and I’ve been very successful with them throughout my career. I am working with a specialist in Aston Villa with Austin and we are sharing my experiences with his experiences.

“I have the responsibility but I am doing through it everything in set pieces. I am helping him and we are sharing together with my coaches.

“It’s very important in the Premier League, it’s very important in Europe. In the first leg, there were three goals from set pieces. Tomorrow we have to defend perfectly because they’re going to try and threaten us through set pieces.”

On LOSC Lille’s qualities…

Paulo Fonseca, Lille.

“They have a smart team with an experienced coach, experienced players. With the lead of their coach, they are getting really good performances in Europe and in their league.

“Their motivation to get a trophy, they showed us. Individually, they have good players and collectively they have good build-up play, good pressing and good organization defensively in the middle block.

“They showed us their mentality because when they were losing 2-0, even in that moment in the second half they were always focusing on the match and they scored one goal. They have a better opportunity with that goal to beat us tomorrow.”
