Matty Cash more than played his part as Aston Villa got back in the win column on Wednesday night, thumping home a volley to put his side 3-0 up against Brentford.
A clean sheet ultimately eluded them at Villa Park, but three important Premier League points ended a run of five games without a win in the top flight.
Cash’s delight at beating the Bees was matched by his happiness at netting his first league goal since August 2023.

“It was good to get a win after a bad run of results,” he said.
“We’d played well in some games but not got the results we’d wanted, so Wednesday was all about getting a result and a decent performance.
“It’s been a while, over a year since I last go on the scoresheet. I want to try and do it as many times as I can and be involved higher up the pitch because that’s where I enjoy being as well as defending.”
The 27-year-old has been frustrated by a niggling injury this season but has now played every minute of the club’s last three matches.
Cash hopes he can build upon that run as the games continue to come thick and fast in December and January.
He said: “I feel great. It’s obviously annoying to pick up little injuries, but now I’m feeling good in my body and stronger.
“Sometimes you’re unlucky to get a little injury when you don’t expect it. For me, it’s about being consistent and trying to stay fit and available for as many games as I can.
“The most important things is being available and being fit. I feel really good at the moment and long may it continue.”

After four home games without a win in all competitions, getting back to winning ways at Villa Park in midweek was an important step.
The team will be trying to back that result up and build some momentum with another home victory against Saturday's opponents Southampton.
“We probably should have stayed over at Villa Park with the games so close to each other,” he joked.
“It’s important that we make it a difficult place to come. Last year we went on such a good run at home, a 17-game unbeaten run, and it was such a difficult place for teams to come.
“We need to try to get back to that. That’s the next challenge for us, taking each game as it comes but also being very consistent and hard to beat at home, starting with clean sheets.
“You win games at home by being strong and consistent, keeping clean sheets and letting the boys up front get the goals. Hopefully, I can chip in along the way.”
