Unai Emery takes his Aston Villa side to Chelsea for an FA Cup tie on Friday night.

And ahead of the fourth round clash, the club's head coach spoke to the media from Bodymoor Heath.

Here's what he had to say...

On the importance of the FA Cup…

Unai Emery.

“We want to be motivated and excited with our supporters in the FA Cup because the prestige of it is very important.

“It’s a trophy; it’s a way to get into Europe; it’s a way to feel something with our supporters in case we are going ahead in this competition.

“I want to be contenders in this competition but the way we’re going to face it (the match) is most important. Tomorrow we’re going to play with the best players we have being focused on this match and this competition.

“I don’t want to waste one match or our time not being competitive.”

On his own record in domestic cups…

FA cup.

“To win a cup is very difficult, and here in England I think it’s more difficult than in other countries.

“I want to do something but every opportunity I have is a challenge, like tomorrow. I know that everything I’ve done in different cups in Spain, France or England was an experience for me.

“Here in England, I didn’t achieve when I was at Arsenal and last year here in Aston Villa, but I haven’t had many opportunities. Hopefully, I will have more.”

On his right-back options…

Unai Emery.

“We are going to face a lot of matches. We’ve played a lot of matches where we needed to be defensively stronger with Diego Carlos, with Ezri Konsa, with Clement Lenglet and trying to build with four or with three.

“Konsa played before as a right full-back and a right centre-back. I want to share with him those possibilities in my tactical idea to build a team.

“Matty Cash as well is a right full-back and he played as a winger before. He can play in those positions. I want to have some versatile players in the squad because it’s very important how we manage each match in different moments when injuries come.

“We’ve added Kaine (Kesler Hayden) to our squad because we need a player with his characteristics as a full-back. The only player who can play like that is Matty Cash. Now with Kaine, we have two.”

On playing Chelsea…

Aston Villa played Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League on Sunday.

“They are playing being comfortable and getting stronger and I think they are progressively getting better.

“They achieved reaching the final of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday and they’re going to face us at home with their supporters. I think they will play thinking of another way to get a trophy in this competition and play in Europe.

“They are going to be focused because the cup is important for them. I respect them, of course, but I believe if we are competitive like we have been doing then we can be with the possibility to win tomorrow.”
