Bertrand Traoré scored his third goal of the Africa Cup of Nations but could not prevent Burkina Faso exiting the tournament with a 2-1 defeat to Mali.

Traoré netted from the penalty spot for the third time just before the hour mark to give the the Stallions, 2021 AFCON semi-finalists, hope of a fightback having fallen two goals behind.

But the Aston Villa forward, who completed 77 minutes, suffered disappointment as Burkina Faso bowed out at the Round of 16, with Mali progressing to the quarter-finals.

Traoré had previously scored twice from the spot against Algeria and Mauritania in the group stage.
