Sophia Poor's first taste of senior football in April has earned her a nomination for the Barclays WSL’s Player of the Month award.

The goalkeeper had never made a first-team appearance until being called upon in our recent fixture with Chelsea at Kingsmeadow.

The 17-yer-old acquitted herself with extreme maturity following Anna Leat's dismissal and earned praise from Carla Ward immediately afterwards.

With Leat having to carry out a one-game suspension, Poor quickly made a first senior start against West Ham United at Villa Park.

In fact, the shot-stopper was only seconds away from securing a clean sheet but was unable to keep out a Shannon Cooke header as Villa settled for a point.

Despite the results, the introduction to senior football will live long in the memory for Sophia and will spur her on to gain more experience in the years to come.

Aston Villa’s No.13 is up against Bethany England, Lauren Hemp, Sara Holmgaard, Beth Mead and Alessia Russo for the award.

Vote for Poor to win via the link above before voting closes at 10am on Monday, May 6.

Good luck, Sophia!
