Unai Emery was proud of Aston Villa’s fightback in their 3-3 draw against Liverpool on Monday night.

The head coach watched his side score two late goals to turn the game on its head and earn a crucial point in the race for a top four finish.

Emery, who gave a passionate post-match speech to the fans, felt Villa competed well against the Reds.

Youri Tielemans made it 1-1 against Liverpool.

“We have one match left at Crystal Palace on Sunday and we are very motivated to get there because today we had the opportunity to get three points today and we didn’t do it,” he reflected.

“We played matching Liverpool. Congratulations to them because they played very honestly and competed very well.

“We competed very well even though we played more chaotic than usual when we needed to exploit our emotions with our supporters and try to push with everything.

“We scored two goals and we drew. Even at the end, we had a chance with Moussa Diaby and the opportunity to get three points.

“I’m very proud of our supporters and how we are here, how everybody is feeling and how we are transmitting our energy and passion with our supporters.”

Villa now head to south London on Sunday knowing that a win will secure Champions League football next season.

Results elsewhere on Tuesday could mean that’s already confirmed before kick-off, but Emery is determined to prepare in his usual thorough fashion.

He said: “It’s in our hands and we have to try and focus on our work tomorrow. We’re going to the train in the morning and recover and to prepare the match on Sunday.

“We’re going to analyse deeply the match we played today and the opponent, Crystal Palace.

“We’ll try to get there feeling strong to get the option we have.”
