Morgan Rogers reflected on a “big three points” at the Amex Stadium, after Aston Villa recorded a 3-0 Premier League victory over Brighton & Hove Albion on Wednesday evening.
The England midfielder provided assists for both of Villa’s first two goals – scored by Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio – on the south coast, taking his total tally for goal contributions this season up to 21.
He admitted victory over the Seagulls felt like a big result, though insisted it was the least Unai Emery’s side deserved.

Rogers said: “A team competing in a similar area of the table as us, we knew it was a big game.
“They were ahead of us going into it and we knew it was a big three points in a big week for us, to see where the rest of our season goes, especially in the Premier League.
“That’s probably the one competition we’ve probably been a bit disappointed with ourselves and to get this win is massive.
“Not only just the three points but the confidence, the team morale to perform such a big win and pull it off like we did.
“I thought we were outstanding from the start, defending, attacking, and I think we deserved the win.
“We were quicker to the ball, I thought we were sharper, especially in the second half.
“First half, they probably had a bit more of the ball but second half I think the way we countered was a lot better. We were more of a threat in terms of that.”

With Villa now having racked up six-straight victories in all competitions, Rogers elaborated on the mentality shift Unai Emery has overseen since the turn of the year.
The 22-year-old praised the impact of Villa’s January signings, three of whom netted at the Amex Stadium, and feels he and his team-mates are well positioned to attack the remainder of the campaign.
“That’s what the manager said,” he added, speaking about Emery’s message on resetting the mindset.
“We kind of drew a line a few weeks ago about what happened before, and we just started fresh with the new players we got from January.
“We’ve got so many players off the bench that can come on and make a difference. Two did tonight again, and that’s what it’s all about.
“It’s all about fresh legs, it’s all about who’s the best man for the job at the time and it’s just (a) next man up kind of mentality.
“That’s what we’re doing at the moment, and it’s really working well.
“We started again. We’re on a good run right now, we’re feeling good, we’re feeling confident every game we go into.
“It’s just about continuing and seeing where it takes us.
“We’ve got a lot of different games in different competitions coming up and it’s just about being consistent and being focused, and everyone’s ready.”
