Amadou Onana reflected on an “amazing” feeling as Aston Villa recorded a fourth successive Premier League victory with a 3-0 triumph at Southampton.

Following a goalless first half at St Mary’s Stadium, substitutes Ollie Watkins, Donyell Malen and John McGinn made a decisive impact to down Saints, with Marco Asensio seeing two spot-kicks saved by Aaron Ramsdale.

It ensured Unai Emery’s side got back to winning ways following our midweek defeat in Paris, making it eight wins in nine matches.

No top-flight side are on a longer successful run in the Premier League than Villa, winning four in a row for the first time since April 2023.

“It feels amazing,” Onana told VillaTV.

“It’s a brilliant win, we’ve been very, very patient.

“We found the holes in the second half and I’m very, very happy with the win.”

Victory moved the Villans up to fifth in the table, just three points behind third place.

Onana added: “I think if we want to fight for the European spots, we need to take it game by game.

“It’s always a pleasure when you finish the game like this.”

Amadou Onana

Onana has made a habit of celebrating victories, both home and away, with the fans after matches.

The Belgium international midfielder enjoys a special moment with the club’s supporters which sees him orchestrate three fist pumps to the sound of cheers from the claret and blue faithful – something which was again in action on the south coast.

“I love it,” said Onana.

“At the end of the day, they’re the reason why we do it.

“It wouldn’t be the beautiful game without them.

“It’s my way of saying thank you for their support.”
